the window box, my twist

Okay, it's really not my idea, but as I have been driving back and forth from my parents home to the beach, a pretty cottage with these great window ledges kept catching my eye.As soon as I saw them, I said, "I have to do that!" Well, 4 years later I've done it! Nothing like taking my time...

They are plainly window box brackets, with a 1x8x8 piece of wood, with terra cotta pots, which will be on top, varying in sizes. I screwed the brackets in, had the wood cut, and painted with an outdoor paint/sealer.

Of course, we are expecting snow here so I haven't set up my pots yet, (Blah!). I will be planting impatiens in the pots. I can't wait to see the pots bursting with colorful flowers and the look as a whole!

new garden for summer 2011-inspiration from Susan Branch, Sharon Lovejoy, and my husband!

Here is our new garden plan that was inspired by Susan Branch with a dash of Sharon Lovejoy and a full cup from my talented landscaping husband. Living in Massachusetts, it's nice to get some inspiration from Susan Branch who lives on the Vineyard.
12 x 24
Here is my sketch above. Will, our soon to be 5 year old, will have his own "Kinder Garden" where he will grow his mini veggies, (thank you Sharon Lovejoy) My hubby will be splitting and transplanting many of our plants throughout the yard and creating borders around the garden. We will be putting veggies into raised beds and outlining the path with my favorite herbs and flowers.
We plotted it out today and it will go to the left of the big snow pile you see. We are really looking forward to creating this garden that we have to name....Every garden needs a name, I say! :)

frugality flea market found

Oh what a frugal flea market day for me! While soaking up some much needed rays, I got the following fun things:

A great shape (reminds me of my Nana) chair! This chair was a whopping $9.00! It was just what my living room needed ;).

Some linens-tableclothes, and pillow cover for $6.00 total

and a soon to be new table project...$8.00. New hardware, new color and this thing will be a beautiful conversation table for my living room. I have a color in mind so come on back~;)

Hope your day was a frugal one!

my cottage snappies

Have you ever wanted to be featured in a decor magazine? I would love it! Ahh, the lights, the cameras, the fame-lol! So, let's pretend this is my 5 seconds of fame and it's my photo shoot for Flea Market Finds, Cottage Living... ;)
I made this sign by painting over an old sign. I printed off the letters, mod poged them on and painted over the whole thing with a water/paint mix for a vintage look.

Most of the items you see are from the.... Flea Market-You guessed it!

The BEE'S KNEES linky party, the in's and out's and in-betweens, in no particular order

Hi there Bloggies,

This morning these tulips woke me up! Look at the colors glowing before the sun even got up! I can't wait for Spring!

Between doing schoolwork and other projects today, I found some time to paint before picking up my "little monster with love," from school. I am working on a small project, an 8x10 canvas, to put into my ETSY shoppe. Well, hopefully, if I don't want to keep it for myself. That's my problem, I don't have a lot in there because I find it hard to part with my work. But, I'm going to have to break down eventually, not look, close my eyes and press 'post'.

The Bee's Knees! I'm changing my linky party name to "The Bee's Knees" Why? I LOVE saying it:) Try it! It's so much fun:) So link up if you think your the "BEE'S KNEES!" Go ahead and share your frugality!!!

a boy and his dog

Our boy and his dog, Max
The Best of Friends!

A Boy and His Dog
Edgar Guest

A boy and his dog make a glorious pair:
No better friendship is found anywhere,
For they talk and they walk and they run and they play,
And they have their deep secrets for many a day;
And that boy has a comrade who thinks and who feels,
Who walks down the road with a dog at his heels.

He may go where he will and his dog will be there,
May revel in mud and his dog will not care;
Faithful he'll stay for the slightest command
And bark with delight at the touch of his hand;
Oh, he owns a treasure which nobody steals,
Who walks down the road with a dog at his heels.

No other can lure him away from his side;
He's proof against riches and station and pride;
Fine dress does not charm him, and flattery's breath
Is lost on the dog, for he's faithful to death;
He sees the great soul which the body conceals--
Oh, it's great to be young with a dog at your heels!
